21st Century Learning

Posted by sunnywilliams on January 14, 2007

I have spent a lot of time this weekend looking at blogs, articles, and videos online about how learning is changing.  As a school, we continue to look for ways to integrate technology more fully into the classroom so we can prepare students for their future in the work place.  I have gone into the discussion boards on several teacher sites to see the questions teachers posted and the responses from students.  Wow!  Our students are having great online discussions in the safety of our SharePoint sites on the meaning of art, the role math plays in basketball, andthe books they are currently reading.

I love technology. Why cant we have a school wide e-mail addresses like the Paine Schools? I would love that.

  2.   Janelle Adams Says:

    Dear Dr. Williams,
I really like how discussion boards create a safe enviornment for students to voice their opinions, concerns, and ideas. I also like communicating with students and teachers from all over the world. Elluminate allows the opportunity for a live conference with others. I would like to set up an elluminate session and allow students to visit the on line session for extra help with homework. I think a live review session before test would also be very helpful.

    Jacob,
Before I check on it, why do you think it would be helpful for students to have their own e-mail addresses for school?
    Thanks for the comment.

  4.   Dustin Says:

It is great to see you have found a safe and secure method for students to have online discussions. I had never heard of SharePoint until I read your blog. This is very exciting and encouraging work your school is undertaking!

  5.   Annie Says:

I agree! Discussion boards are so much fun to use. They make it easy to respond to teachers.

  6.   Matthew Says:

I like the technolagy in the school. I really enjoy posting comments on my teachers sites, and i can make it the font, color, and size i want.

  7.   Davis Says:

    Dear Dr. Williams,
I really like how the discussion boards are working. It is really easy to respond to any of the questions that teaches have for us.

  8.   Carson Chambliss Says:

Yes I relly like having all this cool techno stuff in our school! This makes it easy for us students to share are opinions online and post them. but I agree with Jacob Stanley and also think it would be cool to have a school wide email addresses

  9.   Nikki Morton Says:

The teachers might be reading from the text book and they might need to work out the problems so the students are actually taking in what it looks like.

  10.   Meredith McNamee Says:

I love the discussion boards. They are fun and easy to use. I also think we should have school wide e-mail addresses. We could e-mail eachother about projects or make up work.

  11.   Zack Lee Says:

I wish that we could have more technology in our school. I am better with searching and visualizing then just reading all the time. Plus it would be a great help for us so that we do not have to go to the crowded computer room.

  12.   Adaire Says:

I like working with the technical stuff at school instead of books.

  13.   Tori Says:

Technology has come a long way! I love working with computers instead of just looking at books & writing on paper. On the teacher discussions we tell what happened in our books or whatever the teachers asked us about in the blogs. I personally think that having blogs online about our school instead of hearing them on the intercom is much better. I think it makes students want to learn more about our school when we do it in a way that intrests them.

i think having message boards would help study at home if we don’t get something

  15.   Maya Says:

I like the way we are learning in the 21st Century because we have so much technology that we have a bigger horizon of the world around us. We have so much technology now and we’re only 12-14. The world is progressing.

  16.   JC Says:

Computere Technology is a tool that should be used moderately. You should never try to replace book learning with the computer.

Have you ever experienced a day when your computer has been “offline”?
These have proven to be the most FRUSTRATING days of my life because I have relied on the computer to do everything for me. If I did not know how to read, write, and do arithmetic before I picked up my laptop, then I would not have been able to do the most basic of skills on the day that my laptop crashed!! Try balancing your checkbook without a computer if you have totally relied on online banking.

The techniques of study and research should be learned in a book first and then perfected with a computer. I think we do this generation a disservice if we do not teach them how to learn from a book before we send them to the computer for knowledge.

  17.   Daniel Says:

I like my the 21st century learning because you have lots of technology to learn from, and teachers all have technology which make it easier to from. Also,I like it because you have powerpoints and overhead projecters.Last,I like it because you can print stuff out instead of taking notes.
