Change

I read another principal’s blog this morning about some of the ways technology has changed life for non-digital natives. I would love to hear some of the ways technology has changed in your life time. How has it changed? How do you learn new technology? What do you think is coming?
Here are some of mine–The television in our home when I was a child did not have a remote control–except for me, as the youngest child, I was the one nominated to get up and change the channel. I was in elementary school when desk top computers first entered classrooms. The monitor was not colored or even black and white. All text was bright green on a green screen. Floppy disks were about 5 inches squared and really were floppy. My parents got our first computer in 1983–an Apple IIE. It did not have a printer and had 128K of memory. It cost $2,300. My first mobile phone was a bag phone that only worked in my car. My parents gave it to me so that I could contact help if something happened when I was driving back and forth to college. I had to type my high school papers on a word processor–a step beyone a typewriter but not a full-fledged computer either.
I can’t wait to read what you can come up with…Dr. Williams

Hi Dr. Williams.
Your blog certainly brings back memories. I was my parents’ remote when I was younger. I remember when the most high tech thing in our home was the microwave oven. I had a bag phone too. It was huge.
What I think of now regarding technology is how it’s changed the music world. I remember having a long discussion with my parents when I was fiften about MTV. I thought it was really cool to see the synthesizers and electric guitars and to see the singer’s visual interpretation of their music, which were pretty high tech at the time. My dad said that music videos were a passing fad and that in the end we wouldn’t even listen to music that was made with “electrics”. My mom disagreed and she even said that it was the music of the future. Boy did she will that discussion! Now, it’s common place for all children to use synthesizers, computers and all kinds of new music technology to create music. Little base knowledge is even required. My five year old has the “I Can Play Piano” and is learning piano skills while playing video games. Remember Zach, for example, he had no formal music training before taking my piano/guitar class and he was able to compose an original work on computer, convert it to an mp3 and burn it to a CD. His song won at the local and district levels of the PTA Reflections contest. He made it all the way to the State level with only 1/2 year of music training. Just think how far other children could go with more music technology classes. It is not just the future, it’s the present in the music world.
Hope life is going well for you.

Dr. Williams,
What a great question. I have seen technology change drastically since I graduated from high school in 1988. I spent my computer electives on an apple 2c i believe. It had a color monitor and we spent alot of time designing golf course. Since then I have spent alot of time learning new systems. I was just conversing the other day with my office staff regarding cell phones. My father in law had a bag phone and my wife and I started with a cell phone that only made phone calls. Can you imagine that? Nowdays cell phones are more powerful than computers were just 5-10 years ago. The most amazing tech invention I have seen is an IPOD. What a gadget. Movies, songs, pictures, files, runs on dual platforms, holds more information than you can shake a stick at. Ridiculous. And now they have attached it to a phone. I love technology, gadgets, gizmos and the such. I always like reading about those things.
My concern and question is this: With all the changes how do we keep up in education. When my lab is running pentium 2’s and windows 2000, how do I compete witha society that is on VISTA or OSX. How do I prepare my students for the future, when I can’t even provide the technology for today?
Thanks for the question.

Dear Dr. Williams,
Technology has changed my life because life is a lot easier. I don’t know what I would do without computers. Or even TV for that matter. I do mostly everything now on computers. I type my papers on it, I check my e-mail (duh), I IM (another duh), I check the weather, and I blog. Without the technology we have today, I don’t know what I would do!
February 5th, 2007 at 9:43 am
Technology has changed alot now from then. Now we have the small lap tops, the junkdrives, and all that good stuff. Most of all, we now have ipods. There’s Nanos, Shuffles, etc. Before there used to be tapes then CDs now ipods. Its amazing how much technology really has changed.
February 5th, 2007 at 9:45 am
When I was about 9 years old my brother was burning cds and he was going to burn me one; I can’t believe I wanted Candy Shop on that cd. He kept saying it was bad and now I don’t even think about listening to those songs anymore. I think it sord of perpressure, but then again everyone was listening to stuff like that.
February 5th, 2007 at 9:46 am
That was a very good point.Technology has changed over the years. My mom use to drive an old car that had the T.V. at the bottom in the floor board. It was also a VCR player. Now they have DVD players on the tops of cars. There really is so much that has changed. It is amazing!
February 5th, 2007 at 9:46 am
you have a very good point about technology.
February 5th, 2007 at 9:47 am
I think tecnology has changed alot since I was born. There is alot more tecnology in schools now then there was 8 years ago. Theres alot to say about tecnology today and there is so little time to talk about it because its always changing. I think if we slowed down a little with tecnology then life could go a little bit smother for example when the playstaion 3 came out some people were ran over because there was only so many in stock and there were so many people that wanted them. some people got ran over for them. So I think if tecnology slowed down then life might be a tad bit smoother

Dr. Williams,
I think technology has come a long way.Even though I was not living during most of the time, I have seen cell phones that you can get on the enternet, or even have televion on them.My mom tells me things like I better be glad i have a t.v. or computer because when she was my age they did not even have those types of things. I like we need to be glad we have so many wonderful things like that.
Thanks for listening

Dear Dr. Williams,
The technology today is more advanced than when you had yours. Today the computers are reliable and can hold stuff from movie clips to music. Although computers are great, we onl have one computer because we have to get ready to move to our new house.lots of our stuff had to be out to make room for rennovations.
Right now our computer is in storage until we move into our new house.
February 5th, 2007 at 9:48 am
You had a very good point about technology. It has indeed gotton better. The first type of computer
I had,was an old kind. It was not very fast, but at the time,I did’nt know computers could be faster.
Now,I have a 2006 modeled computer that I got during the middle of the year, and it move quickly.
February 5th, 2007 at 9:48 am
I thing you have a very good point about technology.
February 5th, 2007 at 9:49 am
Technology really has changed alot.If I lived that long ago when there was no technology, I don’t know what I would do!I remember when my dad told me that tvs were black and white.I can’t believe that.I wonder when they started to put color in tvs!I am glad that tvs are in color right now!Iloved your blog about technology.
February 5th, 2007 at 9:50 am
You’re right the technology has changed a lot. I wouldn’t be able to live without it though. I can’t imagen haveing to research for school without the internet. I would never get anything done. I give credit to all the people who worked hard to get us to were we are today!
February 5th, 2007 at 9:51 am
Things have changed since my parents were little. They always tell me about how they only had three channels.I believe what is coming ahead will be new cures for certain sickness, new clothes that monitor health, and new types of computers that can understand what you say.I think about the future often.

Technology really has changed everything in my life. I wouldn’t be able to live without it. It has really come a long way. I use it when i forget to write down my homework or something inportant, i just get online, or call someone for it. I can’t possibly image what the world would do without it. I have never lived without the internet or anything along those lines, i don’t see how some people did. I guess they never had it before, and so they didn’t know how it would be like without it. I’m soo thankful, for those really smart people out there who invented all these things we use today!!!!!!! I use technology everyday, and i don’t think the world would be where it is today, if we didn’t have it. I give credit to those who made it all happen.
February 5th, 2007 at 11:32 am
Hi Dr.Williams,
Technology has changed my world alot. For instance I have an Ipod and they are almost like little computers. Sure they dont let you type word documents or get on the internet but they have songs, pictures, games & more! My Ipod is a 2 GB but my friends is a 4. The have up to like 8 GB I think. For Christmas I got a laptop. Like you said the computer you got a long time ago was 2,300 dollars. Now the laptop you would think would be more but it only cost 700 dollars! My mom had a Bag Phone when she was about 15. I remember her telling me about that. She said I was lucky to have a Razr. She is right and I greatly appreciate all the technology we have today.
February 5th, 2007 at 11:32 am
Sence we have had oneit has really changed my life. In the future i think hightech robots will be coming to people. I learn new technology when I use new technology. When I use something new i usually learn right away how to use it. We have had a dvd player for four years.
February 5th, 2007 at 11:33 am
Well these days computers are a lot more high tech.
They also cost a lot less to. I like computers and
television. But I do not use computers that much for
homework though. Television and videogames are really
addicting now that all the new game systems and televisions have come out. I know that computers have
not been out that long.
February 5th, 2007 at 11:33 am
Dear,
Dr.Williams
One thing that has changed in my life time with technology is ipods for one. we we use to just have walkmans and cd players now we have ipods and mp3 players. Also we use to have big huge records
and now we have small tiny cd’s.I is so crazy how our world is changing and growing every second
February 5th, 2007 at 11:34 am
Dr. Williams,
Technology has changed my life because I never really get bored anymore because we have so many things now. I use technology by my cell phone. The main reason my parents got it for me though is because now that I am in Middle School and I walk to the library after school I can use it for emergencies. I also like having computers around. I cant beleive that the screens only used to be one color though. I use computer for my homework and for fun. But my parents use it for the news, mail, and for maps. I wonder how the world would be like if we didnt have all of the things that we have now. That was a great question.
Hope you have a great day,
Pareasa
February 5th, 2007 at 11:34 am
Dear Dr. Williams,
I think that technology is very important in fact I couldn’t live without it! My great-grandmother told me what she did without technology her storys were very interesting. I enjoy the portable things that inventors came up with.

February 5th, 2007 at 11:34 am
Dr. Williams,
I think your right that technology is changing in our life. Like in the 80’s people did not have MP3 players or Ipods, now look at all the millions of people who have Ipods. My mother told me that when she was growing up they did not have color televisions, she said that there were three channels,ABC,NBC,PBS. then now you can cook a whole dinner in the microwave in minutes. So anyway I think that technology plays a big role in our life.
February 5th, 2007 at 11:35 am
Dear Dr. Williams,
I think computers might become even more portable, and cellphones will get even more features. Technology has changed a lot sense I was younger, and even more from when elders were, but everything seems to have bonus features now, it’s not as much people coming out with new products, but making them better and more costy. It’s like all the big tecnical companies are in some kind of race. Sometimes it’s interesting just to listen to what your elders have to say.

Dear Dr. Williams,
I believe technology has changed everybody’s life, too. On Christmas (2005), I was introduced to an XBOX 360 and I’ve just recieved an Ipod not to long ago. When my parents tell me about their childhood, it is hard for me to believe how there wasn’t as much technology is there is now. After all I would guess that the world would be really different without technology.
February 5th, 2007 at 11:37 am
Dear Dr.Williams
I do thnik that technology has changed alot!Especially
since the past few years when we were babies and toddlers. Like for instance game boys had just came out when i was about 4. We thought it was awsome, but now 7 years later the Wii has come out and everybody thinks its so cool because of it’s wirless controler and the motion senser and all that stuff. Also cell phones like a long time ago they had cell phones so big you had to have a sort of type luch box to carry but now they have the Choclate, the Razor and all that.Thats why i think technology has changed alot even in the past few years!!!
February 5th, 2007 at 11:38 am
Whoa, after reading this I undestand why parents are always saying things like “When I was young we didn’t have any of these fancy computers.” I can’t believe how much technology has changed. I have to ask though, did computers really have green screens and text? Without computer games, Xbox, and Playstation I would be really bored. Cell phones only worked in the car? Now people use them all the time. Thanks for telling me how things have changed
February 5th, 2007 at 11:38 am
DR Williams,
I think the world has changed a lot because you didn’t have a cell phone until you where old enough to drive & I have one now. I also think the computers have changed alot because today’s comptuers do almost anything you need!!!!
February 5th, 2007 at 11:39 am
technology has change many ways in my life time.
One way is that playing games I would use sega and the sistoms like that; now we
have the xbox 360.I think that in the futer we will be driving electronic car. Back then we would listen to music on mp3 players; now we listen to our music on ipods.I think technology will always be advansing in new ways
February 5th, 2007 at 11:39 am
Telvision really gets my attention when I’m bored so if I have finished all my homework I do that.Or I might play video games. If I didn’t have vidoe games
I would be bored as watching paint dry.Or if I didn’t
have television I might not be able to sleep because
I sleep with my television on.Play Station two is what
keeps my attention span going.
February 5th, 2007 at 11:41 am
Dear Dr. williams, My parents said that I could not have a phone until I had a car. I really like technology because it helps people communicate so much better than what people used to communicate with a long time ago.Although I do not have a cell phone yet I do have a phone in my room. My family has a computer with acess to the internet. Most of the time I’m outside playing but my brother spends almost 2 hours a day on the computer. THe best thing about technology I think is that you can talk to your freinds and family alot easier. I absolutly love iPods. I have a pink iPOd. If my parents ever let me get a cell phone then I would ask for either a razor or a chocolate. A chocolate is an mp3 player, camera, e-mail, and partly computer all combinded into one small phone the size of a pack of gum. I wonder what the future will be like. Will it be the same as today or will it have more complicated technonlogy? I hope that we will be able to go to space more often. Please e-mail me back at XXX sincerly, Jessica

Hey Dr. Willams!
It changed my life too because I am the younger child also so when we loose the remote I am ALWAYS the one to have to get up and stand there until they find a channel they want to watch (unfortunately). I use computers every day even when im not in comeputer class. I do instant message and E-Mail and tons of different things and I think it would be hard to live without. I was watching a program on technology last night and it said that engineers are profecting a holo-grafic pet (most likely a dolphin) and it would respond to your voice and it would keep kids safe because it has a built in G.P.S. system so if your kid gets lost and it tells the dolphin it is lost and the will guide it home so that the child is more safe. The projecter hooks on to your shoulder so it looks as if it is swimming beside you in mid-air. I thought this was amazing! And also they said that flying cars are going to be used for emergency vehicles in about 20 years and for the public in about 50. I thought flying around in a hot pink flying car when im 62 years old might be a tad embarising! What do you think?
Thanks for reading
~Alex~

I think technology has changed my life in many ways, like the way a DVD player works or a computer works it,s really cool.
February 5th, 2007 at 1:56 pm
I’m not trying to be rude but you miss speld some
February 5th, 2007 at 1:57 pm
Hey Dr. Williams,
Technology has changed my life by using the fhone, also by listening to music and if I didn’t have music I really don’t know what
February 5th, 2007 at 1:59 pm
Dr. Willaims I’m not trying to be mean but I would like to watch all of Channel One in the mornings
buy
February 5th, 2007 at 2:00 pm
Dear Dr. Williams,
I think thats a great idea. Technology has changed millions of lives ever since the 1900’s. Fineally someone understands me, all the time people don’t listen to what i say. It has changed me by helping me with reading, science, math, social studies, and language.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:02 pm
Hey Dr. Williams well first off i want to say that you spelled “some” wrong but your still the greatest. Well technology changed alot in my life because there is color on T.V.’s and there is more stuff on the computer. I get to watch alot more shows like Sportcenter and MTV. Technology made us build alot of stuff on the computer like to learn how to build houses or a golf course. I get to do my homework too.
Well thats all I got to say I hope you have a great day!
By: Nick Lee
P.S. Your the greatest principle anybody could ask for.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:03 pm
When I was really young my family didn’t have but one television. Who ever had been watching first desides what we were watching. when we got two one went into my room which I sharred with my brother. I never got a computer to myself and still share one today. we use to use candles when the power went out but now we have a generator.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:03 pm
Hey Dr. Williams,
Wow I never knew how much our technology has changed over the past few years. I even learned something new today about technology, because I never new that some computers had green screens and bright green words. I think that is a very interesting fact to know. Technology is incresing everyday. Your blog is great,it’s such an awesome way to learn new things.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
Hey Dr. Williams!
Technology certainly has changed over the past few years. Any time you have to write a paper or want to talk to your friends, you have the technology to do it. Technology has made it easier to communicate, learn, research, play games, and have a lot of fun! Technology is changing every day even as we speek!!!!
I loved your blog!!!! I would write more but I have to go to my next class!!!!
February 5th, 2007 at 2:40 pm
hi, technology has changed my life alot. I use to buy cd’s for my cd player, now i got an IPOD so i can just download songs.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:43 pm
technolgy has canged a ton. I know how you feal im the yongest to. I have to change the channel to.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:44 pm
I was with out a remote all ways change
the channel bye
February 5th, 2007 at 2:44 pm
I think that is really intersting that your computer screen was green and not clear.I undrestand what you are talking about when you say “you are younger and you had to get up and change the channel all the time.”
I do my little brother the same way.
Well I enjoyed reading your blog.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Well Dr. Williams, technology has changed a bunch in the last few years. I mean there are video Ipods and cell phones that play music and all that bunch of stuff. Well, I’m in Mrs. McGuyer’s computer application class so now I am learning alot about technology. Fore the last thing what else could they come up with? I mean now they have cars that can paralell park by them selfs. I mean that’s pretty high tech huh? ha ha
February 5th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Technology has changed by that all technology has more space on a smaller object. Everything is sleeker. Technology has changed a lot with the years. I have learned a lot from technology. I have learned that when you watch TV you usually hav to use two remotes and if you do not know what you are doing, it can be very complicated. I think that everything is going to keep having more on a smaller object while looking very sleek.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
technolgy has canged a ton. I know how you feal im the yongest to. I have to change the channel to.
technolgy has changed so much, like black and white tvs, and huge computer to laptops.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
Dr. Williams, you are the best principal a student could have here at HTMS!!! Seriously you are. There is no principal better that you. I just wanted you to know that you are the best.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:47 pm
Technology has changed for us to. It used to be the biggest thing to have a CD player, but now you have to have an ipod.(which i still dont have, but I dont really want one.) Technology in cars is always changing,I men look at a 1995 Convertable and a 2007 Lincoln Navigator they have DVD players,Navigational Systems, and Onstar. So it seems like technology is always changing. Probably always will.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:47 pm
Hey Dr. Williams,
One type of Technology that has changed my life is the computer. The first computer my family ever got was big and very slow. Unlike now my computer is smaller and a lot faster. Having the computers working faster is really helpful and can hepl get a lot of things done in a short amount of time. For me i can check my myspace, see who is on aim, and check yahoo in about 5 minutes. At least that amount of time as long as I dont respond to anything that is.
You and I both know that technology has changed for the better.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:47 pm
hey Dr.Williams,
technology is very fasinating in many ways.A t.v.
used to have 3 to 10 channels, now it has over a 100.
Also apple has made many new things that are very high
tech such as ipods and the new iphone which you can take a picture and with your fingers you can make it smaller or bigger.Lastly in the future they are making the new cars that run off solar energy!!!!!
February 5th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
Dr. Williams,
I think now days as us kids we have it made. It seemed to have been hard to not be able to have remotes for your television. It couldn’t have been fun just to get up off your couch every other minute. Also for computers not to be color and not have all this internet stuff. That means a computer was practically pointless almost. Well, especially for it to be $2,300. It probally seemed hard to read the computer since it was lime green text and green background. I am so glad technology is better. Now days computers are better and less expensive. I mean you can even get flat screens moniters and flatscreen tv’s.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
–hey dr.williams
i think the technolagy has
changed in a big way like
computers, phones, and mp3 players,
t.v’s, and alot of other things too!!!
also since we live in AMERICA and are the TOP
country in the world well i think; we have a ALOT
of privalges and elcetronics!!

Dear, Dr.Williams
I think that some of the new technolgy will be even more advanced. Since i was born technolgy has changed a bunch from cell phones to razors. In about 20 more years it will be evan better. From cars to phones. Cars will probaly even be able to fly maybe. The phones will probally have a t.v. built in to them and maybe even a teleporter now theres something to dream about, and maybe the computers will be able to be as small as a cell phone so you could fit it in your pocket. Then you could press a button and it would pop up into a 16 inch. You never know with all the genius minds out there it could just happen.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:49 pm
Dear Dr. Williams,
Technology has changed my life dramatically! Almost everything is or has gone electric. Computers help my life by letting me look up things and by getting help to learn and understand better. Television also has changed my life in a very big way because without it, we wuldn’t know what was going on in the world today! When you watch television, it tells you what has happend, or when a storm is going to come, so it helps us when it tells us the weather, about safety, and even nutrition! Those are some of the ways tht technology has changed my life.
Thanks for everything!
Mary
February 5th, 2007 at 2:49 pm
In my opinion, I dont know how anybody could come up with any more inventions. I mean the telephone facinates me and an automobile is amazing also. I dont think they will come up with any more crazy things like the Ipod and cellphone but somebody might come up with some small inventions.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:50 pm
I think technology has changed because there has been new cars and cellphones. There has been a change in technology like the new cellphones like the Razor the envy and the fire also the new mustang and the new ford escape.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:51 pm
Hey Dr. Williams,
Technology has changed over time from seeing pictures and hearing about stories from my family. Something that i know that has changed is the cell phones, they used to be big and now they have flip phones, and smaller ones. Something else that has changed is technology that the docters use in the hospitals, they used to not have all the tools that they have today, and the medicinethat they need for people. It has changed so much over time and when we get older there will be no telling what there will be. They have come a long way with all the technology.
Thanks for everything!
Abbey
February 5th, 2007 at 2:51 pm
I haven’t really been alive long enough to see technology change but I have seen a few things. I have seen cell phones get a lot smaller, TVs get thinner, and all types of electronics become hand-held.
I learn about new technology by adverisements, mainly on TV. I am learning how to better my computer skills right now in Computer.
I think a lot more stuff iis going to become hand-held and the things that are already hand-held are going to become more efficient. For example, I think that cells phones are going to get even smaller and have more stuff on them. I think that the hand-held game systems are going to become smaller, more interactive, and have better graphics.
Well, thank you for your time! I really enjoyed you blog! I look forward to reading you next blog!!!
February 5th, 2007 at 2:51 pm
Dr. Williams,
I’m sure it wasn’t very fun back when you were young. You are the most thankful one in the family, because you got the most in style toys. I bet you bragged about having the newer toys back in your childhood. Now dsys everything is more high-tech and a lot more expensive. If we still had the technology that you’ll had then the city just would’nt be the same.
Thanks for the blog.
Luke
February 5th, 2007 at 2:52 pm
Technology has changed alot. I remember when my grandarents had their old tv, you had no remote, and you had to change the volume, turn it on, and change channels on the tv. Our cell phones now have internet and some have ipods. people now have video conversations on the computer! My mom got her’s the other day.I hope they come out with the computers that shine on the desk by a laser soon.
February 5th, 2007 at 2:54 pm
Dr. Williams,
I enjoyed your blog. People back then never had computers or vidoes games, but now computers are so popular. Tecnology is getting better every day aruond us. I’m glad we have these things now-a-days.
Prices are getting higher evry day. For example gas, it was $3.05 after hurricane Katrina hit, but now it has gone down a lot to $2.10. Cell phones have better services and long dictance calling. Some companies have great plans like Sprint has two phones for $80.99.
Thanks for the great question,
Jzyk

I heard that the first computers were like 15×15 feet
wide. I really liked the part about how you were nominated the remote girl.to tell you the truth I liked all of it. Bye!

I absolutely love playing on the computer. I don’t know what I would do without it! I’ve been begging for a cell phone but now I realized I don’t really need one. It would be one more thing to pay for!!! Bye!!!!!

Hi Dr. Williams!
That blog sounds like some of the things my mom tells me about when she was growing up! I think only a couple of new technological inventions have been discovered and/or shared in my time of being alive. One was the i-Pod, one was the MP3(I think),and of course there were all different types of software and computer brands that have been invented. Also, all the little new contraptions that i-pod has made are really cool!!!

Well, I couldnt imagine growing up without a remote control for the television, But it might just be because of the way I grew up. Well computers have changed ALOT! Now they have smaller and bigger computers, laptops, smaller towers that hold more memory. You can also get more RAM to upgrade memory.I learned new technology by shopping mainly and from my parents, also suprisingly from television.

Hey Dr. Williams!,
This is Keli i just thought i would let you know that i thought your blog about technology was very good examples of how many many things have changed and how much we have progressed in science! I remember our first computer, although it was not long ago i do know it was still slow as christmas and aful. It was a really ugly cream color , but it did have a color screen so i am thankful for that!
Hope life is going good for you!

well i dont know what it is like to not have a remote but i know what it is like to lose a remote and turn the channels manually.ha ha. im taking a typing class and all this is new to me. when i went to clay there was no computer classes.but im not being mean to that school. because i went there and liked it there.I’m very suprised on how technelogy has progresses in the past 10 years.Ten years ago the only computers were in a home.now my cell phone has a way to get on the internet and look around.that is hard to do when your technelogy challenged like me.i really like your blog.keep it up.

Hi Dr.Williams!
I wouldn’t really know or be able to predict what is going to come out in the future because there are so many new and cool things that I have at my house. I’ve become so accustumed to having color TV and my computer. But unlike most of my friends, I don’t have access to a computer 24/7 because my only computer is located in my brother’s room. Yes, I would very much like to have my own computer because I have a MySpace and I like to check it very frequently because I’m not that social. I don’t go to the movies on the weekends, I don’t go shopping with my friends, so I don’t really get to talk to anyone because of that. My parents make me have to ask them if I want to get on the computer. I’m not very enthusiastic about that though, because they’re my parents and they should trust me. But still, I’m just grateful that they still let me get on the computer, regardless.
Thank you for your time Principal Williams! I enjoyed reading your blog very much!
Sincerely,
Savana

I guess now computers and T.V. are part of our everyday life. My grandma tells me stories of seeing a TV. for the first time in her life and about the first remotes. I suppose I can’t really imagine what that would be like. Technology, though is still changing I remember getting our first computer (my dad had an over sized laptop he used for work) It was bigger than the ones now and did not have much memory we kept it till it crashed because of too much memory and we bought a new one which was still not near as good as what we have in our home now.
I have noticed some people adjust well and others do not. My Dad’s mother uses a computer but barley ever and very time I see her I have to show her something. My Mom’s dad however knows more than I do; every time I see him he shows me more.
I really can not imagine my life with out these modern marvels and am glad I was born in a time were they have them! Of course I know there will probably be so much more in the future! I just know that what ever it brings knowing how to use it will be a must to survive!

Now it seems like everyone has an i-pod or an mp3 p,layer or a cell phone and all that stuff1 i mean, I have a cell phone, but like you said, mine is just fro emergencies or if I miss the bus and things like that. I don’t have a flip-phone, or a camera phone, or a blackberry, or one that is half i-pod, half phone! bUT THE POINT IS, THAT WE DON’T REALLY need i-pods, or cell phones. i mean, yes.. they do help… but why can’t we just rely on good-old common sense anymore??? It’s CRAZY!!!!!!!!

Dr. Williams,
This is Ashton I was going to comment these questions that you have asked. Technology has changed alot like now we have computers. When we got our first computer I liked to play games on it like reader rabitt. O have relized that back then you didn’t get to learn all of that stuff. Computers have helped me aolt like whenever I need to type of report for english or other subjects. I think that we are going to have flying cars in the future, but that is just a thought because I am not really sure what all we are going to get. I am happy that you let us answer those questions I injoyed it!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Dr. Williams,
love Ashton

I wonder if it was very tiring to get up and down to change the channels time after time.Especially, when its a commercial and you don’t want to watch it and then you change the channel for a while you wait for the commercial to be over, but by the time you changed it back to what you were watching you miss the most exciting part or something. Also,I wonder how it feels when you are to lazy or something to change the channel with your hand instead of a remote which a lot more less tiring and a lot easier to change the channel just by a push of a button instead of getting up to the tv to change it and then walking back to watch. Also, for example what would happen if the tv was to high to reach and you didn’t have a remote to change it with, then you would have to go get a chair or something else to climb up and change the channel.

Hey Dr. Williams,
This is Keli again. I did it wrong in the last one and I thought I would come back and finish and answer your questions! It has changed darastically I know because one computer used to take up a whole room basically! And it used to be green like you said and then it was black and white and now it is as colorful as can be! You can even get personalized files now that already come on your desktop when you order it! Believe it or not i learn new technology from friends most of the time and they come to school all excited about it and then they tell me about it and then i ask my mom about it and then we will go look it up on the computer because we are intrested to see what it is and how it works! I can not even tell you what is coming there is going to be so much stuff it will be unbelivable!! science is a never ending thing and we know that now but einstien sure didnt he said there will never be anythng new created and that was many many years ago! Now there is so much technology and new stuff it would blow his socks right out of the water!
Well i will see you later
I hope I did it right this time!

I believe Technology is a wonderful thing. But it is getting to allot of our heads for instance. Do you know how many people stay up in the middle of the night to wait on games or new releases. I have to confess even I have. I waited till 1 in the morning to get Halo 2 but it was worth it he-he. Anyways I believe Technology is a good thing but it not worth going phsycho over.

Josh, I agree that we need to look carefully at how we use technology and need to teach responsible use. That being said, I believe that schools and families must work together to teach these skills.

Technology has changed so much over the years. When my parents were growing up, they only had a couple of channels, and they were in black and white, like The Andy Griffith Show. Now, they have every show in color, and VCRs hardly exsist anymore. Another thing Ive noticed, is the changed with cell phones. Before they were huge and bulky and now most of them can fit in your back pocket with a built in camera, video, text messaging, and internet.

Technology has changed some in my life too. We now have 75 in plasma screen HD T.V.s. Also almost everyone has a computer now. I do all my woek on the computer. I type my papers, and find research on the internet. I could also not go without my ipod, it is awsome. Technology has really gone a long way and it is goning to keep growing.
